Common Misconceptions
Can’t a destination wedding be carried out while maintaining respect for Guru Sahib?
No – the act of treating Guru Sahib like a commodity and taking Them to our desired location negates the central role of Guru Sahib in the Anand Karaj and makes the couple the center instead
Why is it ok to take Guru Sahib to people’s homes, but not to a destination wedding?
Because we must go to Guru Sahib to make Them the center of our married life. In house programs, we invite Guru Sahib into our homes to obtain Their blessings, the purpose is completely different. Marriage venues bring Guru Sahib not for blessings but for their own business interests and profit. In addition, Guru Granth Sahib Ji is also not permitted to be taken to homes with alcohol or drugs in them.
If religious individuals of other faiths can do destination weddings, why can’t Sikhs?
The Anand Karaj is not a spectacle, nor a mere joining of two souls; it is a sacred ceremony that brings Guru Granth Sahib Ji into the center of the lives of the wedded. The purpose of Anand Karaj is drastically different from other faiths.
Why do we need to report destination weddings, why not just live and let live?
Because by turning your back on the beadbi of Dhan Sri Guru Granth Sahib, and doing nothing, you are just as responsible for the beadbi as the main perpetrators. We are all responsible for preventing the beadbi of Guru Sahib. If you see something, say something.
