Satkar of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji
Guru Granth Sahib Ji is not a Holy Book:
Guru Granth Sahib Ji is not a holy book like the Bible or the Quran. Guru Sahib is our Eternal Guru. They command our utmost respect as the True King of Kings of the entire creation. For this reason, from the times of Guru Nanak Dev Sahib, our Gurus were addressed as the Sacha Patshah. Therefore, we must be very careful about how and where Guru Sahib can be brought.
Where can’t Guru Granth Sahib Ji be taken:
The Sikh Panth (collective), through the institution of the Sri Akal Takhat Sahib, has determined that it is inappropriate to bring Guru Granth Sahib Ji to places where people serve and consume alcohol, smoke and chew tobacco, or where the proper respect for Guru Sahib Ji cannot be ensured for any reason.
Transporting Guru Granth Sahib Ji:
Because we do not consider our Guru Sahib a mere book, They cannot be just carried by someone alone by hand or in a suitcase or in the trunk of a car. Guru Granth Sahib Ji is transported in a dedicated vehicle, and always accompanied by 5 Amritdhari Gursikhs. At the destination, Guru Sahib is respectfully carried on the head of an Amritdhari Gursikh with at least 4 other Amritdhari Gursikhs present in the service of Guru Sahib.
